About the ViDe Video Access Working Group...
http://www.vide.net/workgroups/videoaccess/
The mission of the ViDe Video Access Working Group is to expand access to digital video resources and to promote preservation and management of digital video resources through the use of shared, standards-based video metadata and search and retrieval technologies, and includes the following goals:
- Develop a flexible, scalable metadata architecture that supports evolving technologies and interoperates with any digital archive architecture or database technology.
- Employ and interoperate whenever possible with open standards in information management such as Dublin Core descriptive metadata standard, A-Core Administrative Metadata proposal, OAIS (Open Archival Information System), and ISO/IEC 11179 Metadata Registry.
- Develop multiple delivery systems for the metadata architecture.
- Provide extensive proof-of-concept testing through a video access web-based portal.
- Disseminate draft and final products to a wide audience of digital video developers and managers
- Encourage use of the metadata architecture through presentations, training and a significant web presence.
About the ViDe User's Guide: Dublin Core Applicatio Profile for Digital Video...
Within the Working Group, several authors contributed to the outlining of an application profile that includes the use of Dublin Core metadata for the identification and description of digital video resources. These authors are Grace Agnew, Dan Kniesner, Markus Buchhorn, Jean Hudgins, Douglas King, Mary-Frances Panettiere, and Manjula Patel. The application profile was published on September 9, 2001 (revised) and titled "ViDe User's Guide: Dublin Core Application Profile for Digital Video." The document is availabe as a PDF from the ViDe website. Use the link below to download and review the profile.
An expanded mapping to enhance the simplicity of Dublin Core, but capture the granularity of the metadata elements in MPEG-7 was undertaken two years later. Learn more about the MPEG-7/Dublin Core Application Profile by accessing PBCore's listings of element mappings.
